About

Casa Matrescence

Where women are at the center of their care.

What is Matrescence?

Matrescence describes the intense physical, emotional, psychological, relational, and identity evolution women experience through the metamorphosis of motherhood. Much like adolescence, it is a developmental process rather than a single event, one that begins during pregnancy and continues to unfold as a woman grows into and through motherhood. It can reshape how she experiences her body, relationships, priorities, sense of self, and place within her family and the world.

And matrescence does not happen only with a first baby. Each pregnancy and each child invites another evolution. A woman may already be a mother, but she has never before been the mother of this child, within this version of herself, her relationships, and her family. With every addition, she is asked to adapt again as her body, responsibilities, family dynamics, identity, and experience of motherhood continue to change.

While pregnancy often brings visible physical change, matrescence also encompasses the quieter transformations happening beneath the surface: adapting to a changing body, preparing for birth, developing and redefining maternal identity, navigating new responsibilities and relationships, recovering after pregnancy and birth, and integrating who she was before with who she is becoming. At Casa Matrescence, this understanding shapes the way care is offered. Preparation does not end at birth, and postpartum care is not simply about returning the body to what it was before pregnancy. Care supports the woman through the full transition tending to recovery, nourishment, nervous system regulation, relationships, identity, and the gradual integration of motherhood into a changed body and life.

Matrescence honors that while a baby is being born, a woman is reborn too whether it is her first child or her fifth.

What is continuity of care?

Continuity of care at Casa Matrescence fills an essential threshold within maternal healthcare, one that is non-clinical, relational, and deeply supportive of the day-to-day realities families face as they move through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

While medical providers play a critical role in ensuring safety and addressing clinical needs, continuity of care exists in the spaces between appointments, protocols, and systems. It is in these spaces that families often need the most support in navigating change, uncertainty, emotional processing, and the practical adaptations of becoming parents.

Continuity of care means you are supported by a consistent presence who understands your full context over time. You have a coach, consultant, and intuitive guide walking alongside you to help integrate preparation, decision-making, and care as a fluid journey rather than a series of disconnected events.

At Casa Matrescence, continuity allows prenatal preparation to naturally evolve into birth support, and birth support to transition into postpartum integration, without abrupt hand-offs or gaps in care. Through relationship over time, trust deepens, attunement grows, and families are better supported to not only navigate birth, but to also be well cared for so they thrive as they step into parenthood.

What guides this work?

Casa Matrescence is guided by the understanding that pregnancy, birth, and postpartum are not just physical events, but life transitions that reshape the body, nervous system, relationships, and identity. Care is grounded in respect for the body’s innate intelligence, the importance of continuity and trust, and the reality that adaptation, not perfection, is what supports long-term wellbeing.

Rather than offering one-time services or rigid packages, support unfolds through relationship over time, adapting as needs shift and realities change. Drawing from full-spectrum doula care, Ayurveda, yoga, meditation, and embodied practices, this work supports physiological preparation, nervous system regulation, and thoughtful adaptation including when birth paths change or outcomes are unexpected.

Your Specialists

Sarrah Hernandez

Founder · Doula · Ayurvedic Wellness  Practitioner · Yoga Instructor · Childbirth Educator · Matrescence Care Provider · Aromatherapist · Lactation Peer Counselor · Newborn Specialist

Born in Paramount, California and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, I now call Kapolei, Oʻahu home, where I live with my husband, Luke, who was born and raised on the island.

My path into women’s wellness grew from my own journey toward greater wellbeing. From a young age, I struggled with depression, anxiety, my weight, and feeling at home within myself. Like many women, I have also moved through seasons of challenge, change, and experiences that asked me to reconsider what it truly means to care for the whole person.

Over the years, yoga, meditation, dance, strength training, Ayurveda, and eventually finding my calling as a doula profoundly changed the way I relate to my body, mind, and the circumstances I cannot control. These practices taught me that wellness is not about achieving perfection, but about cultivating the awareness, resilience, and supportive rhythms that allow us to meet life with greater grace, reverence, and surrender.

That lived experience ultimately became intertwined with my education and professional work. I hold a Master of Arts in Maharishi Ayurveda & Aromatherapy and a Bachelor of Arts in Women & Gender Studies, alongside specialized training as a full-spectrum doula, childbirth educator, lactation educator and peer counselor, yoga and prenatal yoga instructor, and Ayurvedic postpartum doula. My background brings together years of supporting women and families through pregnancy, birth, postpartum, education, movement, and holistic wellness.

Today, Casa Matrescence is an expression of both my professional training and what I have learned personally: that women deserve care that sees the whole of who they are. My work is grounded in the belief that meaningful wellness is built over time, through relationship with the body, intentional daily choices, compassionate support, and learning how to care for ourselves through every season of becoming.
